The Oregon Vortex is a roadside attraction in Gold Hill, Oregon that consists of a number of gravity hill optical illusions, which are interpreted by the owner of the property on which they are found, as the result of paranormal qualities of the area. Anything called ‘paranormal’ is much more interesting to the visiting tourists than a naturally occurring phenomenon. In fact, the Oregon Vortex is an optical illusion caused by a spherical field of force, half above and half below the ground. The Phenomena that gives The Oregon Vortex its name are evident throughout the entire area. Nowhere in the area of the vortex can a person stand erect. The visitor inevitably assumes a posture that inclines toward magnetic north. As a person recedes from you towards magnetic south, they appear taller. When they approach you, coming towards magnetic north, they become shorter. This is difficult to comprehend as it is against the laws of perspective, so it is explained as paranormal.
