Originating many, many miles away in the Rocky Mountains, an enormous erratic rock traveled all the way to the Willamette Valley in an iceberg, around 15,000 years ago. When the iceberg eventually melted the rock was left in its current location in the heart of Oregon, where it serves as a reminder of America’s Ice Age. Today you can enjoy sweeping views of the beautiful valley which was once totally covered by water. The Erratic Rock State National Site features a short (0.5 mile) hike which will take you along a pretty trail alongside vineyards and farmlands. You can find more information about the erratic rocks amazing journey from the Canadian Rockies at the start of the trailhead.
