Review & Frequenly Asked Questions:
The Portland Central Library was constructed back in the year 1913 and is the oldest public library to the west of the Mississippi River. The library is home over seventeen miles of bookshelves, along with some great artwork, most of which is reflective of a “Garden of Knowledge” theme. Some highlights of the art include a cast-bronze tree with relief images measuring fourteen feet in the children’s room and the ornately decorated staircase. The Portland Central Library is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The library is open six days a week, closed on Mondays.
