I loved how this little city tucked into western Oregon feels relaxed yet full of character. Whether you’re sipping wine, biking along the river, or discovering historic neighborhoods, you’ll find Albany to be welcoming any time of year—and I’ve enjoyed every season there.
Albany, OR Highlights:
- Explore Historic Downtown Albany — I spent hours wandering these tree-lined streets. You’ll come across cute boutiques, local bistros, and some of the most beautifully preserved 19th-century buildings I’ve seen in Oregon.
- Tour Albany’s Covered Bridges — One of my favorite things to do is hop on a bike or take a slow country drive to see the classic wooden bridges. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a postcard.
- Walk or ride the Dave Clark Trail — I’ve walked this scenic riverside trail on peaceful mornings and breezy afternoons. You’ll love the views of the Willamette River—it’s great for a relaxing stroll or easy bike ride.
- Visit Monteith Historical Society Museum — I learned so much here about Albany’s early days. If you’re curious about Oregon pioneer history, you’ll find this charming home-turned-museum fascinating.
- Attend the Albany Farmers’ Market — I always try to plan my visit around this market. You can taste fresh produce, shop handmade crafts, and enjoy live music. It’s the perfect way to meet locals and get a taste of the community.
Best Time to Visit Albany, OR
From my experience, the best time to visit is between May and October. I love the late spring blooms, especially near the covered bridges—it’s perfect for photos. Fall is another favorite of mine with the colorful leaves and harvest festivals. And during the summer, you’ll have great weather for wine tasting, farmers’ markets, and all the outdoor activities.
How to Get to Albany, OR
- By car — I’ve driven in from both Portland and Eugene. Albany is super accessible right off I-5. You’ll get there in about 25 minutes from Corvallis, 45 from Eugene, and around 75 minutes from Portland depending on traffic.
- By air — If you’re flying in, I recommend Eugene Airport (EUG) for a closer option, but I’ve also flown into Portland International Airport (PDX) and driven down—it’s an easy and scenic drive.
- By train — I’ve taken Amtrak’s Cascades line straight into Albany Station. It’s a relaxing way to arrive, especially if you're coming from Seattle or southern Oregon. You can even hop on the Coast Starlight route.

- Phoenix Inn Suites — I’ve stayed here on a weekend getaway and really appreciated the central location and cozy feel. It’s great for business or pleasure.
- Comfort Suites Linn County — If you’re attending an event at the expo center like I did, this is a perfect spot. The rooms are spacious and the amenities made my stay super comfortable.
- Edelweiss Manor — For something special, I once booked a stay at this lovely B&B. It’s in a historic home with beautiful details and the homemade breakfast was such a treat. You’ll feel pampered here!
