Craving lakeside charm, Finger Lakes wine, and small-town serenity? I think Hammondsport is exactly what you need. Tucked at the southern tip of Keuka Lake, I’ve found this village to be one of the most peaceful getaways in upstate New York. You’ll love the views, the wineries, the friendly vibe—and if you're like me, you’ll come back feeling recharged. From aviation history to local festivals, Hammondsport blends relaxation with just the right touch of exploration.

Best Time to Visit

In my opinion, the sweet spot for visiting Hammondsport is late spring through early fall—May to October. I’ve visited in both summer and autumn, and each has its charm. Summer is great for lake activities and festivals, while fall brings that crisp air, colorful foliage, and cozy harvest events. If you time it right, you can sip wine with a lakeside view under golden leaves—it’s pretty unforgettable.

How to Get There

  • By Car: I usually drive in via Route 54 or I-86. It’s a beautiful ride, especially as you get closer to the lake. You’re about 1.5 hours from Rochester and 2 hours from Syracuse, so it makes for an easy weekend escape.
  • By Air: When I’ve flown in, I’ve used Elmira/Corning Regional Airport (ELM). It’s just a 45-minute drive to town. Rochester and Syracuse airports are options too, though you’ll want to rent a car either way to make the most of your trip.
  • By Bus: There’s some regional bus service, but I always recommend renting a car. You’ll want the freedom to explore the lake, wineries, and scenic routes at your own pace.

Where to Stay

  • Best Western Plus The Hammondsport Hotel – I stayed here on one of my first trips, and it was super convenient. You’ll get a clean, modern room, free breakfast, and easy access to everything around the lake.
  • Blushing Rose Bed & Breakfast – If you’re after charm, this B&B is perfect. I loved how close it was to downtown—you can walk to the lakefront in minutes. The rooms are cozy, and the hosts are the kind you’ll remember long after you’ve left.
  • Vinehurst Inn & Suites – This one’s great if you’re planning to tour the wine trail. I’ve stayed here while doing just that. It’s just outside town, family-run, and has a laid-back feel that’s ideal after a day of tastings and sightseeing.
