Celebrating and showcasing the railroad history of Long Island, the Railroad Museum of Long Island is spread over 2 locations on the North Fork of Long Island. The Visitors Center and restoration site is located in Riverhead, while the larger Greenport site is where most of the permanent and rotating exhibitions are staged. The museum has amassed an important collection of rail-related equipment including several vintage locomotives and rolling stock. It also includes the historic 1910 LIRR Passenger Station and the 1964 World’s Fair Train which has been restored to working order. The museum hosts regular summer mini-events and is well worth a visit.
