When I wanted historic charm, artisan flair, and that warm small-town feel, I headed to East Aurora—and I think you’ll absolutely love it too. Just outside Buffalo, this walkable little village surprised me with its rich Arts and Crafts heritage, buzzing Main Street, and all those welcoming local spots. Whether you're sipping cider at a cozy café, diving into Roycroft history, or hitting nearby trails, East Aurora makes for a picture-perfect upstate escape.

Best Time to Visit

If you're planning a trip, I’d say May through October is the sweet spot. I’ve visited in the summer when the streets come alive with festivals and outdoor dining—you’ll feel like you’re part of the community. Fall is my favorite though. You’ll love the crisp air, colorful leaves, and weekend harvest markets. And even in winter, East Aurora keeps its charm with twinkling lights, snowy walks, and cozy spots like the Roycroft Campus to warm up indoors.

How to Get There

  • Driving? I usually take NY-400—it’s an easy drive about 25–30 minutes southeast of Buffalo, or 1.5 hours from Rochester. You’ll enjoy the scenic approach through the countryside.
  • Flying in? I’ve flown into Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) a few times, and it's only about a 30-minute drive to town. You can grab a rental car or use rideshare apps—super convenient.
  • Taking a train or bus? I’ve used Amtrak and Greyhound to get into Buffalo before, then caught a local bus or rideshare to East Aurora. It’s a simple hop if you’re coming in without a car.

Where to Stay

  • Roycroft Inn – Staying here felt like stepping into a living museum. You’ll be surrounded by hand-crafted Arts and Crafts design, plus the on-site dining is fantastic. It’s right on the historic campus—I loved waking up and just wandering outside to explore.
  • Hampton Inn East Aurora – If you prefer a modern stay with familiar comforts, I’ve had a great experience here. It’s just a short walk to all the Main Street shops and cafés, so you’ll be right in the action.
  • Local B&Bs and Vacation Rentals – I’ve also rented a little cottage near downtown, and it was the perfect home base. If you enjoy a cozier, more local feel, I definitely recommend checking out the charming homes and guesthouses in the area—you’ll feel like you belong.
