Established in 2005 by two women, the independently-owned Certified Women-Owned Business Enterprise focuses on community, sustainability, and social responsibility, ethically sourced beans from artisans around the globe, and roasting them locally.

Hungry Ghost Coffee first opened on the corner of Flatbush and 6th Avenues in Prospect Heights and quickly expanded to Fulton Street in Fort Greene and another nine locations throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The cafés provide a warm and welcoming gathering spot for the community and serve the highest quality Stumptown Coffee and healthy farm-to-table fare from partnered businesses such as Ovenly and BKLYN Larder.

If you want to sip your coffee outdoors (best time is in the spring or fall), I recommend Roots Cafe. Roots Cafe is a coffee shop based in a long and narrow space that serves all-day breakfast and lunch and fantastic coffee.

The café serves locally-roasted coffee from Ithaca-based Forty Weight Coffee Roasters, run by Andrew Ballard and Matt Marks, who are committed to ethical, responsible, and transparent business practices.

In addition to the regular coffee favorites, Roots also has an expansive list of teas and specialty drinks like the Yoo-Hoo with espresso and iced coconut Americano.

I like Southside Coffee, a casual neighborhood café in South Park Slope, for its delicious coffee, as well as pastries, and sandwiches.

The coffee menu features coffee such as Intelligentsia espresso, PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. and Counter Culture drip, French Press, and filtered Clever Dripper, along with americano, single and double espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, and lattes.

A food menu of light fare includes freshly-baked muffins, scones, and cookies from Lot 2, as well as flaky croissants from Balthazar. Their croissants are nearly as good as in Paris.

Southside Coffee has comfortable indoor seating and a small outdoor area for alfresco-style dining and coffee drinking.

Abbotsford Road Coffee Specialists is a casual neighborhood café and coffee roaster set in an industrial-like space on Sackett Road that serves a range of espresso drinks and light fare.

The spacious 2,700square-foot spot boasts 40 seats and plenty of tables and serves coffee made from Australian company Di Bella Coffee beans.

The drinks are accompanied by a menu of light fare from sandwiches and salads to freshly baked pastries and other sweet treats.

The coffee shop has an educational space too. You take classes from professional baristas on how to make the perfect cup of coffee!

Black Brick Coffee is a cozy, softly-lit café that serves Stumptown Coffee and Dough donuts in a quiet atmosphere.

The low-key café has a warm and welcoming ambiance with vintage décor, a giant swing chair, and a charming back patio for sipping morning coffee outside.

The café serves a variety of standard coffee such as americano, single and double espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, and latte, along with specialty coffee drinks like single-origin French presses, nitrox, Chemex, and pour-over coffee.

Homecoming is a small, serene, and very stylish florist and gift shop with a coffee corner selling single-origin coffee drinks and fresh pastries.

The brainchild of Vanessa Chinga-Haven and Paul Diaz, the café-cum-florist boasts exposed-brick wall, and a sunny interior with beautiful bohemian accents and offers a menu of hot and cold brews, including espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, chai lattes, hot chocolate, several teas, and almond soy milk.

Light fare and sweet treats include croissants, cookies, muffins, and donuts by Dough, which are served along with drinks during shop hours.
