A visit to Sanford’s Historic Railroad House is sure to rekindle fond memories of the excitement of a long-distance rail journey. The town of Sanford owes its existence to the arrival of the railroad, and the house was originally built as the home of the first railroad depot agent, Mr. Tucker, whose wife established a school in the building. The house was relocated in the 1960’s, and underwent extensive restoration before re-opening as a museum. Inside you will find a host of interesting photographs, documents and artifacts relating to the early days of the railroad in Sanford. Visitors can also admire a 100 year-old steam locomotive.
