The Cliffs of the Neuse State Park covers over 1000 acres along the banks of the scenic Neuse River close to Seven Springs in Wayne County. The remarkable 90 ft cliffs were formed over centuries by the erosive action of the river, resulting in a very beautiful outdoor area demanding to be explored. Visitors have several hiking trails to follow and there is a swimming area, picnic area and camp-site and fishing area. You can learn about the interesting geology of the park at the Park Museum. A visit to the Old Waynesborough Park is like stepping back in time to the pioneer days in Wayne County. The park is built on what was once the location of the town of Waynesborough, where it is home to a collection of 9 historic buildings which were moved to their present location from all over the county. You will get to see a general store, blacksmiths shop, school house and a doctor’s consulting room and more. Although the buildings look fairly similar to each other from the outside, it is interesting to learn about their origins and the stories attached to them. Today visitors to the Goldsboro Bridge Battlefield can explore the area on foot along several trails. To help you relive the scale of the battle you can pick up a battlefield map and set off along the trails which feature 8 historical markers and a granite monument which explain the story of the battle.
