Mehanata Bulgarian Bar is an infamous party spot in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, earning a reputation over the past two decades as one of the city’s most outrageous nightlife spots. The hip Bulgarian club is a favorite of Hollywood celebrities such as Elijah Wood, Macaulay Culkin, and Scarlett Johansson, known for its famed Ice Cage, a glass box offering true Russian drinking experiences challenging visitors to down six shots of vodka in two minutes. It is credited as the birthplace of the recent resurgence of gypsy punk music, known as the site of Gogol Bordello’s breakout performance.
