Lincoln National Forest is a forest preserve near Alamogordo, which contains more than 1.1 million acres of forested lands spanning from near the Texas border through several counties in New Mexico. The park has land on four mountain ranges and features a number of different environments and wildlife habitats. The national forest is a popular year-round destination for outdoor sports and recreation. Activities include camping, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and riding off-road vehicles. Winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy skiing and snowboarding at Ski Apache. There are also sledding and tubing areas and cross-country ski trails in the forest for even more winter fun.
