Sunset Beach is perfectly nestled along the Cape May Peninsula, close to Cape May Point. As the name indicates, the beach offers some of the most spectacular sunsets on the East Coast. Sunset beach is covered in pebbles, which means that it is not the most comfortable beach for sunbathing but it is very popular with families who like to spend time searching for Cape May diamonds – small pieces of quartz crystal hidden between the pebbles. At low tide you can see the ship wreck of the SS Atlantus which ran aground on the beach during WWI. The beach is famous for the flag raising ceremony which takes place there from Memorial Day through August, featuring flags from veteran’s caskets.
