If you're anything like me, you dream about a quiet mountain escape that feels like a true retreat. I found that in Bartlett, New Hampshire—and I think you might too. Nestled right in the heart of the White Mountains, it's where I go when I want hiking, skiing, scenic drives, and a cozy place to recharge. Whether I’ve been chasing waterfalls in summer or fresh powder in winter, Bartlett always delivers something special for both of us.
Best Time to Visit
If you're planning a trip, I suggest aiming for June through October. That’s when I’ve enjoyed the best hikes, discovered gorgeous waterfalls, and watched the foliage put on its brilliant show. But if you're like me and love winter sports, then December through March is your season for skiing and snowboarding. I’ve also gone in spring—it’s quiet then, and you can snag great deals. That peacefulness? You’ll feel it too.
How to Get There
- By Car: I usually drive—Bartlett is right along US-302. You’ll get there in about 2.5 hours from Boston or just 1.5 from Concord, NH.
- By Air: If flying works better for you, I recommend Portland (PWM) or Manchester (MHT). I’ve flown into both—they’re each around 2–2.5 hours away by car.
- By Train: I’ve taken the Conway Scenic Railroad just for fun. It's scenic, but not practical for getting there. So if you're serious about visiting, driving really is your best bet.
Where to Stay
- Attitash Mountain Village – I stayed here once and loved the condo setup, pools, and easy mountain access. If you're looking for both comfort and fun, you’ll appreciate it too.
- Bernerhof Inn Bed and Breakfast – When I wanted something romantic, this was my go-to. Cozy rooms, amazing breakfast, and stunning views—you deserve that kind of stay.
- Sky Valley Motel & Cottages – I picked this when traveling with family. It’s affordable, has a great pool, and the river nearby was a huge bonus. You’ll feel right at home here.
Top Attractions
- Attitash Mountain Resort – I’ve spent both summer and winter days here skiing, mountain biking, and even riding the alpine slides. If you're into active adventures, you’ll have a blast.
- Bear Notch Ski Touring Center – I went snowshoeing here and found it so peaceful. If you need a quiet day with just the sound of snow under your boots, this is your place too.
- Diana’s Baths – This short hike led me to some of the prettiest waterfalls I’ve seen. If you’re visiting in summer, don’t skip it—it’s magical.
- White Mountain National Forest – I can spend whole days exploring here. You can too, whether you’re chasing views, spotting wildlife, or just cruising the scenic roads.
