Review:

Fantastic Caverns is a massive system of caves located near Springfield, Missouri. It was discovered in 1862 by an Ozarks farmer but was explored for the first time five years later by a group of women explorers. The caves are today privately owned and are open to the public. The tours are conducted in jeep-drawn trams to protect the fragile environment and to allow tourists to enjoy the visit in comfort. The tour takes 55 minutes and goes along a wide, well-lit path – a former riverbed surrounded by huge formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, “soda straws,” cave “pearls,” flowstones, and massive columns. The caverns were used during Prohibition as a speakeasy and for music concerts in the 1950s and 1960s.
