Pipestone National Monument is a stunning outdoor space that is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and recognized as a U.S. National Monument and U.S. Historic District. Its main feature is the pipestone, or catlinite, which is a sort of ceremonial pipe which was used by Plains Indians during many of their religious practices. The quarries surrounding the monument are still sacred to most of the Native American tribes in North America.
