If you're craving a quiet escape by the lake, I have to tell you—Paradise, Michigan lives up to its name. When I visited, I found myself completely surrounded by peaceful forest, the soft roar of waterfalls, and the vast beauty of Lake Superior. It’s tucked away on the Upper Peninsula’s southern shore, and once you're there, you’ll feel the world slow down. Whether you’re into birdwatching, hiking, or just soaking in the views, I think you’ll find your own kind of peace here like I did.

What I Think You’ll Love in Paradise, MI

  • Start with Tahquamenon Falls State Park – I spent hours hiking through the forest and watching those massive falls. If you’re anything like me, the sound of that rushing water will stay with you.
  • Curious about maritime history? Visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum – I learned so much about Lake Superior’s shipwrecks. You’ll find it right at Whitefish Point, and it’s both fascinating and moving.
  • Love birding? Don’t miss the Whitefish Point Bird Observatory – I brought my binoculars and was amazed at how many species passed through. You’ll want to bring your camera too.
  • For peaceful treks, hit the North Country Trail – I hiked stretches of this trail and felt like I had the woods all to myself. You’ll pass through quiet bogs, forests, and even catch glimpses of the lake.
  • Need some beach time? Walk the Lake Superior shore – I spent an afternoon collecting driftwood and just letting the waves roll in. You might even find a few agates if you look closely!

When I Recommend You Visit Paradise, MI

If you ask me, late spring through early fall is ideal. I went in early September and got to see the trees starting to turn—pure magic. Summer gives you those long, sunny days for hiking and waterfall views. And if you love birding, plan your trip around the migration seasons in spring or fall. You won’t regret it.

How I Got to Paradise, MI (And How You Can Too)

  • By Car: I drove up from the Mackinac Bridge—it took about 1.5 hours. If you’re coming from southern Michigan, I suggest making a few scenic stops along the way.
  • By Plane: You can fly into Chippewa County International Airport near Sault Ste. Marie. I’ve done that before—it’s just an hour’s drive from there to Paradise.
  • Want a scenic route? – Try the Mackinac Island ferry for a little detour, then drive north on I-75 and M-123. I did that once and it turned the journey into part of the adventure.

Where I’ve Stayed (And Where You Might Want To)

  • Magnuson Grand Lakefront – I loved waking up to views of Whitefish Bay. You’re close to everything—trails, the falls, and the lake.
  • Curley’s Paradise Motel – When I was looking for a simple place with a great vibe, this hit the spot. Clean, friendly, and convenient.
  • Campgrounds at Tahquamenon Falls State Park – If you’re like me and love waking up in the woods, you’ll love camping here. I’ve stayed at both rustic and modern sites—they’re all peaceful and close to the action.
