Plimoth Patuxet Museums is a replica of an original historic settlement of the 17th century Plymouth Colony, a living history museum in Plymouth established in 1947. The settlement paints the picture of the life of early English colonists known as pilgrims, some of the first English people who came to America. A not-for-profit museum is mostly supported by grants, contributions and volunteers. The re-creations of the original Plimoth Plantation had to rely on a range of period paintings, first and second-hand records, accounts, and original artifacts to ensure accuracy and convey the true spirit of the colony. The museum is open to visitors as well as researchers and scholars researching this period of history. Museum staff members are involved in further research and excavation in the States and abroad in order to increase the knowledge of the pilgrims and their history.
