If you’re looking for a city that blends history, community pride, and an easygoing urban feel, I’d say head to Brockton. Known as the “City of Champions,” it’s a place where I’ve explored fascinating museums, walked in lush parks, and felt the pride of a city with deep roots. Whether you’re into boxing history, art galleries, or simply want a relaxed day away from Boston, you’ll find that Brockton makes for a surprisingly fun and rewarding visit.

Best Time to Visit

I usually recommend planning your trip between May and October. That’s when the weather is ideal for checking out the city’s outdoor spaces or catching one of the local festivals. You’ll love strolling through the parks in late spring or seeing the colorful trees in fall—especially if you enjoy a bit of nature mixed into your city time like I do.

How to Get There

  • Driving? I’ve made the trip from Boston in under an hour. Just take I-93 or Route 128 to Route 24—Brockton is right off Routes 24 and 28. You’ll find it an easy and scenic drive south of the city.
  • Taking the train? I’ve hopped on the MBTA’s Middleborough/Lakeville commuter line—it drops you off right at Brockton Station. If you're staying in Boston, it’s a super convenient way to visit without needing a car.
  • Flying in? The closest major airport is Boston Logan (BOS). I’ve done the drive from the airport in about 40 minutes—it’s a straight shot with a rental or rideshare.

Where to Stay

  • Residence Inn by Marriott Boston Brockton – I like this one when I need more space or am staying a few nights. You’ll get a full kitchen, breakfast, and even a pool—it’s great if you’re traveling with family or just want that extra comfort.
  • Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Brockton – I’ve stayed here when I wanted something simple but convenient. It’s close to shopping, and you’ll love the complimentary breakfast to start your day right.
  • Holiday Inn Express Boston-Brockton – This spot is perfect if you want to be close to everything. I’ve used it for quick weekend getaways—the rooms are modern, and it’s near the Westgate Mall and Massasoit Community College.
