Need an easy, entertainment-filled getaway between Baltimore and D.C.? Head to Hanover! Whether you're flying into BWI or just looking for a fun day trip, Hanover is packed with things to do—from shopping sprees and casino nights to family outings and foodie finds. It’s super convenient, and there's always something going on—making it one of my go-to spots for a quick, fun escape.

Best Time to Visit

If you want to enjoy the best weather, I’d plan your trip in the spring or fall (April–June or September–October). These seasons are perfect for strolling the outdoor plazas at Arundel Mills, grabbing a bite on a patio, or heading out to nearby parks and trails without the summer heat or winter chill. Plus, you’ll find fewer crowds than in peak summer months!

How to Get There

  • By Car: Getting here is a breeze. Hanover is right off MD Route 100 and I-295—just about 15 minutes south of Baltimore and under 45 minutes from downtown D.C. It’s a great stop if you're road-tripping up or down the I-95 corridor.
  • By Air: Flying in? BWI Airport is practically next door (10 minutes away). Lots of hotels nearby even offer free airport shuttles.
  • By Train: The BWI Rail Station is served by both Amtrak and MARC trains. From there, it’s a quick shuttle or ride share to Hanover. Super easy for travelers coming from D.C., Philly, or even NYC.

Where to Stay

  • Live! Casino & Hotel – This is the place to stay if you want to be right in the action. You’ve got gaming, concerts, bars, and dining all under one roof. The rooms are sleek and modern, and it’s great for couples or groups looking for a fun night out.
  • Element Arundel Mills – Traveling with family or staying longer? The Element has spacious suites with kitchenettes, a free breakfast that actually hits the spot, and it's just steps from the mall. Bonus points for being eco-friendly!
  • Aloft Arundel Mills BWI Airport – I love the vibe here—modern, pet-friendly, with a chill bar and a great little pool. It’s a perfect base if you’re planning to explore the area or need a comfy layover stay near the airport.
