The Northlake Museum and Nature Center is a pristine 400-acre nature preserve along Bayou Castine that features a diverse variety of landscapes from ancient pines and cypress swamp to hardwood forests. Established in 1982 to preserve, research, and protect the natural habitats of southeastern Louisiana, the center features a boardwalk winding along the bayou and through the forests, an array of nature-related activities, and children’s programs. The nature park is home to a wealth of bird species and hosts the annual Great Louisiana Birdfest.
