Need a quiet mountain town with Wild West charm? I always recommend heading to Genoa, Nevada! I’ve wandered through this historic little spot in Carson Valley, and every time I go, it feels like stepping into another era—with gorgeous Sierra views all around. Whether I’m soaking in hot springs, strolling the old boardwalks, or grabbing a drink at Nevada’s very first bar, Genoa gives me that perfect mix of relaxation and romance. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape with character and history, I think you’ll love it too.

Best Time to Visit

In my experience, the best time to visit Genoa is from spring through fall—April to October. I’ve hiked and biked during these months, and the weather’s just right. Fall is my favorite, especially during the Genoa Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Fair—the whole town comes alive with color and charm. Winter’s quieter, but if you’re up for some snow fun, Lake Tahoe resorts are just a short drive away.

How to Get There

  • If you’re driving: I usually take Nevada Route 206—Genoa is just 20 minutes south of Carson City or 30 minutes from South Lake Tahoe. The drive is scenic and super easy.
  • By Air: I fly into Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO), then rent a car for the hour-long ride to Genoa. It’s a beautiful drive, and well worth it once you get there.
  • By Bus: Honestly, I always drive. Public transit is limited, and you’ll want a car to explore the area fully. Trust me—it’s the best way to enjoy the region.

Where to Stay

  • David Walley’s Hot Springs Resort – I’ve stayed here to unwind, and soaking in those natural hot springs is pure bliss. You’ll love the spa treatments and mountain-style suites.
  • White House Inn Genoa – When I want something more intimate, this B&B is my go-to. The rooms are full of charm, and you’ll be right in the heart of town—it feels like staying in a storybook.
  • Carson Valley Inn (nearby in Minden) – If I’m looking for more entertainment, I book here. It’s just 15 minutes away and offers dining, a casino, and even live music. You’ll find a little bit of everything.
