Situated on the eastern bank of the Des Moines River, the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden is a seven-acre public garden that features progressively designed gardens, dynamic exhibits, and innovative programming. Founded in 1929, the public garden features a variety of beautifully designed gardens ranging from an 80-foot tall geodesic-domed conservatory with indoor plants from around the world, a tranquil water garden, and a hillside garden to the Lauridsen savannah, the Meredith terraces, and the French-inspired Ruan Allée.
The Trellis Café is a perfect spot for some lunch after exploring the gardens and serves a locally sourced, plant-based menu of healthy fare such as seasonal soups, fresh salads, gourmet sandwiches, handmade pasta, and decadent desserts, along with craft beers, casual wines, and creative cocktails.
