Review:
It all started in the early 1990s, when Col. Robert W. Powell and his friends from the Memorial Veterans Association exposed their collection of military artifacts for everyone to see in a classroom at Memorial High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Col. Powell retired from the United States Air Force after a long and respectful career, including as a glider pilot during WWII. Col. Powell and a few of his friends founded the Memorial Veterans Association in 1996 and together managed the historic military artifacts in their collection. The collection was moved from Memorial High School to different locations in Tulsa, until the City of Broken Arrow offered the Center’s current location on in the Rose District as the collection’s permanent home. Today, while the name has been changed and the collection has grown significantly, the mission has not changed: Many items in Military History Museum’s collection have been donated by families of veterans who share the museum’s goals.
