Crook Hall & Gardens is a medieval stone manor house built in 1217 and one of the oldest still inhabited houses in Durham City. The medieval Hall changed in time into a Jacobean Manor house and later into a Georgian Town house, reflecting the changes in style over the centuries. The Hall is surrounded by five acres of spectacular English gardens. Both the Hall and gardens are open to visitors, who can also enjoy traditional English Afternoon Tea in the gorgeous Georgian Drawing Room. The Hall is also a unique, historic wedding venue. Garden Gate Café is open 7 days a week for breakfasts, light lunches and refreshments with wines and local ales.
