Zion National Park preserves an area of natural beauty in southwestern Utah. The park is characterized by the steep cliffs of Zion Canyon, which are a distinct shade of red. One of the most popular ways to see the park is by traveling the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive, which travels through the main section of the park and passes many scenic vistas. The park is rich in both flora and fauna as well as interesting history as both native people and pioneers occupied the area before it was a park. Popular activities include backpacking, hiking, bicycling, birding, camping, rock climbing, horseback riding, canyoneering, and boating on the Virgin River.
