If you’ve ever dreamed of lakeside views, mountain hikes, and that irresistible small-town charm, I say go for Bigfork, Montana. I’ve paddled across Flathead Lake and felt the calm wrap around me—you’ll love it too. I always carve out time to hike the scenic trails nearby; trust me, your camera roll will thank you. And when you’re ready to wind down, you’ll find cozy art galleries that I always get lost in. It’s where outdoor adventure meets peaceful culture. If you're looking for your next Montana escape, this is it.
Best Time to Visit
If I were you, I’d plan for June to September—that’s when Bigfork truly comes alive. You’ll get the warm weather and all the lake activities you could want. I never miss the summer festivals either; they’re such a fun way to connect with the community. But if you’re anything like me and prefer a quieter, more colorful experience, you’ll love visiting in September or early October. That fall air? So refreshing.
How to Get There
- By Car: I’ve driven in from Kalispell before—it’s a smooth 30-minute ride on Highway 35, and just 45 minutes from Glacier National Park if you’re coming from there. Super scenic too.
- By Air: I usually fly into Glacier Park International Airport (FCA). It’s only 35 minutes from Bigfork, and you’ll find plenty of flight options from major cities.
- By Bus: Honestly, I wouldn’t rely on buses. I’ve found renting a car is your best bet—it gives you full freedom to explore.
Where to Stay
- Bridge Street Cottages – I stayed here once and fell in love with the riverside vibe. You’ll feel right in the heart of the village, tucked into rustic charm and comfort.
- Timbers Motel – If you’re after something simple and budget-friendly, I’d recommend this. I found the rooms super clean and the staff genuinely friendly—it’s just outside the village too.
- Mountain Lake Lodge – When I want to treat myself, this is where I go. The lake views are amazing, and I’ve had some unforgettable dinners here. You’ll leave feeling recharged.
