January is the coldest month of the year in Rijeka. Both the average high and the average low temperature are in the 40s, creating a range of 49°F (9°C) to 40°F (4°C).

In February, the average low temperature remains at 40°F (4°C). Meanwhile, the average high temperature sees a 2-degree increase to 51°F (10°C) for the last month of the winter season.

March sees a moderate amount of rain in Rijeka with a 14 mm precipitation rate. Both high and low temperature averages see a considerable increase with the high temperature average at 57°F (14°C). The low temperature average measures in at 46°F (8°C).

In April, the average low temperature sees a 4-degree increase to 50°F (10°C). Meanwhile, the average high temperature rises by 5-degrees to 62°F (17°C) for the second month of Rijeka’s spring season.

The Rijeka Airport is located on the island of Krk about 10 miles from Rijeka. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge and it takes about 30 minutes from the airport to the center of the city. There are several ways to get from the airport to the city. Airport buses leave for the city approximately 30 minutes after flights land at the airport. Taxis wait outside of the terminal and this is another option to get into the city. If you are interested in driving, there are several car rental agencies that are located at the airport.

Rijeka has an excellent public transportation system: there are many buses with routes that extend around the city and depart approximately every 15 minutes. You have your choice of individual fares or weekly tickets: the buses use a zone-based system. This is an efficient, comfortable, reliable, and affordable way to see the attractions in Rijeka. There is another bus system that is geared specifically towards visitors. It is called the TouRist Bus and comes with narration in eight different languages: these narrations point out the main attractions in Rijeka and explain the significance of the sights. They are colorful double-decker buses and fares are reasonable.

There are several other ways to explore Rijeka. The train station and the bus station are located in the city center as are many hotels. One of the best ways to visit Rijeka is by walking from you city center hotel. Many of the main tourist attractions are within walking distance: there are beaches, museums, restaurants, galleries, and many historic sights. There are some hills, but reaching the top is worth it: there are wonderful views of the city and the bay. Riding a bicycle is another great way to see the city. There are several bike rental agencies as well as public bicycles. Two other ways to get around include car or taxi.

Many of the restaurants offer freshly caught fish and seafood. Pizza restaurants are also popular especially for visitors on the run who want a quick meal. Some of the good seafood restaurants include Konoba Feral, Restaurant Gardens, Restaurant Molo Longo, Zlatna Skojka: they serve both fish and seafood. There are also quite a few restaurants that specialize in serving ethnic cuisine. Restaurant Asia, Restaurant Peking Wok, and Restaurant Peking serve good Chinese food; Italian food is the speciality at Bistro Pizzeria Maslina and Restaurant Spagho; and Mexican Cantina Bodega serves Mexican Food. Municipium Restaurant-Tavern is a popular restaurant serving traditional fare that uses fresh local ingredients.

Shoppers are treated to a variety of shopping experiences in Rijeka. Tower Center Rijeka is a large shopping mall with shops, restaurants, a huge supermarket, and an entertainment complex. There are more than 50 different shops located on three floors at the Western Commercial Center. Ri Department Store is one of the oldest shopping centers in Rijeka: it was built in 1974, but don’t let the age of the building stop you from exploring the shops. In addition to shopping malls, there are shops that are easy to find in the center of the city. These shops sell a huge variety of goods including antiques, works of art, handicrafts, books, souvenirs, and gifts.

Rijeka and the surrounding areas and countryside are picturesque and are appealing for those wanting to get married somewhere special. Foreigners are permitted to get married in Croatia and the weddings are legally binding. There is a fair amount of paperwork, but you do not have to be in Croatia for a set amount of time before you can apply for a marriage license. After going through the paperwork and getting the license, it’s time to find your special wedding venue. Hotels include the Grand Hotel Bonavia and the Hotel Jadran. But don’t limit your search to hotels. There are so many spectacular outdoor locations at the top of the hills with unforgettable views.
