Quick Summary: Guthrie is a city in Logan County, Oklahoma and a part of the Oklahoma City Metroplex. After the Land Run of 1889, Guthrie became an important railroad stop. It quickly grew and in 1907 became the first state capital of Oklahoma. Guthrie is famous for its large historic downtown district with more than 2000 mostly Victorian buildings. The best place to learn about the city’s history is Oklahoma Territorial Museum and Carnegie Library, located in the beautiful 1902 Renaissance Revival building, built originally for the Carnegie library. Guthrie Scottish Rite in Guthrie is one of the largest Masonic Temples in the world. Pollard Theatre Company is a professional theatre in Guthrie recognized by critics and artists as one of the major theatrical companies in central Oklahoma. The Oklahoma Frontier Drugstore Museum features an extensive collection of artifacts and memorabilia that tell the story about frontier pharmacies and early drugstores.
