Vogel State Park is one of the most beloved and oldest state parks in Georgia, located within the Chattahoochee National Forest, at the foot of Blood Mountain. Visitors pass through the Neel Gap coming from the south, traveling through the gorgeous mountain pass by Brasstown Bald, the state’s highest point. One of the region’s most beautiful parks, Meeks Park in the mountains of North Georgia is situated just outside the main area of Blairsville along Highway 515. Established in 1992, the park is considered to be the Blairsville-Union County Recreation Department’s crown jewel. The park offers many amenities and facilities for visitors to enjoy, including more than four miles of trails, four covered pavilions, basketball court, skate park, four tennis courts, two playgrounds, community pool, a splash pad, a utility field, T-ball field, four batting cages, two softball fields, four baseball fields, eighteen-hole disc golf course, and a large dog park.

The Nottely Dam in Union County is a flood storage and hydroelectric dam along the Nottely River, which runs through Blairsville, Georgia. Built during the 1940’s and operated by the region’s Tennessee Valley Authority, the Nottely Dam resulted in the formation of Lake Nottely, also known as the Nottely Reservoir. There is also a trail that winds along the Nottely Dam’s shoreline. This trail can be biked or hiked in a figure-eight path instead of simply a standard loop. In addition to biking and hiking, visitors may also spot wildlife along the trail, such as white-tailed deer.

Blairsville, GA

The Hole In The Wall is the oldest diner in the Union County of Georgia, situated in the heart of the downtown square of Blairsville. Founded in 1931, the building has been a restaurant since it was established, however, it has changed owners from time to time. Chef Mark Cox purchased the legendary Hole In The Way in 2006, bringing the restaurant back to life. The local dining establishment serves breakfast all day and lunch, offering a wide variety of options. The restaurant is open Monday to Saturday from 7:00am until 4:00pm and Sundays from 7:30am until 2:30pm.
