Looking for a laid-back beach destination with sunshine and local charm? I’d say head straight to Pompano Beach! I’ve spent time there and always come back feeling recharged. You’ll find long stretches of sand, great seafood, and a vibe that’s way more relaxed than its big-city neighbors. Whether you’re snorkeling, fishing from the pier, or just soaking up the South Florida sun, I think you’ll fall for the easygoing pace just like I did.

Best Time to Visit

If you ask me, winter and spring (December–April) are the best times to go. That’s when I like to visit—the weather’s warm, the humidity’s low, and it’s perfect for beach days, boat rides, or enjoying one of the outdoor festivals. You’ll love being out in the sun while most of the country’s still bundled up.

How to Get There

  • Driving in? I usually take I-95 or U.S. Highway 1—Pompano Beach is only about 10 miles north of Fort Lauderdale and around 40 miles from Miami. It’s super easy to get to from anywhere in South Florida.
  • Flying? I’ve flown into Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) a few times—it’s only about 25 minutes away. Miami International (MIA) works too if you don’t mind a 45-minute drive.
  • Prefer the train? I’ve used both Tri-Rail and Brightline to get around. They connect Pompano Beach to Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, which makes it easy if you’re not driving.

Where to Stay

  • Beachcomber Resort & Club – I stayed here once and loved the private beach and tropical vibe. You’ll feel like you’re in your own little paradise, especially with the poolside cocktails.
  • Residence Inn by Marriott Fort Lauderdale Pompano Beach – If you’re looking for extra space, this all-suite hotel is a great pick. I liked having a kitchen and the ocean views were a nice bonus.
  • Club Wyndham Santa Barbara – I haven’t stayed here yet, but friends of mine have and they raved about the marina views and roomy condo-style suites. It’s close to everything, especially the beach.
