Located in Mauckport, Squire Boone Caverns and Village is a popular tourist attraction centered around the Squire Boone Caverns, which were discovered by Daniel Boone and his brother, Squire, in the late 18th century.
The brothers were hiding from Indians at the time they found the cave, and Squire later purchased the land in which the cave was situated and started a grist mill at the site. The property and caverns were donated to the public when Squire died in 1815, and today still features the mill which visitors can explore on guided tours. The caverns are open year-round, and the working pioneer village features a soap-making building, a chandler house where candles are made, and an old fashion candy shop. Guided tours are of the caverns, the grist mill, and the working pioneer village are available year-round.
