Founded in 1845 by the original German settlers of Frankenmuth, the St. Lorenz Lutheran Church was named after three Lutheran churches by the same name in three German cities. Named for St. Laurentius, a Christian who was killed for his faith in the third century A.D., the St. Lorenz Lutheran Church is home to a congregation of nearly 5,000 today.

The St. Lorenz Church has a Christian School in which over 500 children are enrolled, providing Christian education from preschool through junior high.
