Located west of the Appalachian Mountains, the Daniel Boone National Forest boasts some of the most rugged and remote terrain in the state of Kentucky. The sprawling forest covers 708,000 acres of forestlands. There are three lakes within the forest as well as many rivers and streams.
For tourists, Daniel Boone National Forest is an ideal place for hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, boating, rock climbing, hunting, nature watching, and other outdoor activities. More than twenty-one counties are part of the Daniel Boone National Forest, and the recreational area is open all throughout the year.
