Review & Frequenly Asked Questions:
California real estate magnates David and Marsha Karpeles amassed the largest private collection of manuscripts in the world, which they put on display in eleven locations across the United States. The goal of these museums is to stimulate cultural literacy, and the free admission makes the manuscripts accessible to anyone interested.
The Tacoma museum is a large Greco-Roman building across from Wright Park, and its exhibits change frequently. Founded in 1983, the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum has manuscripts of the Bill of Rights and others by such luminaries as Charles Dickens, Ludwig van Beethoven, Christopher Columbus, Ernest Shackleton, Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and Galileo Galilei as well as pencil drawings by Norman Rockwell.
