Review:
The Fort Larned National Historic Site is a preserved fort on the Santa Fe Trail which was in op-eration from 1859 to 1878. Located in Larned, Kansas, it reflects the history of the Indian Wars, as the sandstone buildings gave shelter to the Guardians of the Santa Fe Trail, who protected traffic from hostile American Indians.
It features a museum tour as well as a bookstore, historical buildings, and a nature trail that winds in a semicircle around Pawnee Fork, with opportunities to observe the woodland, grassland, and riparian animals and plants. It is also an excellent place for birding, since it is located on the Central Flyway, a bird migration route.
