Old Wethersfield, also known as Old Wethersfield Historic District, is a lovely neighborhood in the heart of Wethersfield that is home to over 1,000 beautifully preserved houses and buildings dating back to the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Historically known as Watertown or Pyquag, this section town is the state's largest historic district and was the site of the first settlements in Connecticut. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the village includes 50 houses that were built before the American Revolutionary War, around 250 additional dwellings built before the 20th century, and about 100 of which were built earlier than the American Civil War. Other notable buildings in the district include the Buttolph-Williams House, the Joseph Webb House, the Silas Deane House, and the First Church of Christ.

3. Kayak or Picnic by the Scenic Wethersfield Cove
Once a site of much local trade and travel, the Wethersfield Cove is a sheltered cove with deep water access to the Connecticut River upriver from Essex and is a prime recreational, boating and fishing resource for the region. Located 40 miles from Long Island Sound and sitting 10 feet above sea level, the cove has a rich history from its days of trade, but today is a great place to have a picnic and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. The Wethersfield Cove features several historical private homes, including the Solomon Welles House, and the Folly Brook Natural Preserve, and a marina with a boat launch ramp, boater moorings, a tender dock, and seven slips available to transient boaters.

6. Dig Into Prehistoric Fun at Dinosaur State Park & Museum
The Dinosaur State Park & Museum is a massive track site that features an exceptional display of early Jurassic fossil tracks dating back 200 million years. The park features an Exhibit Center that displays an array of outstanding specimens that were uncovered in the 19th century, a spectacular view of the exquisitely preserved Mesozoic floodplain that is covered with fossilized tracks, collections of fossils, and dioramas of certain Triassic and Jurassic environments. The center is surrounded by more than two miles of nature and hiking trails, as well as the Dinosaur State Park Arboretum, which is home to more than 250 species and cultivars of conifers, as well as magnolias, ginkgoes, katsuras, and other living representatives of plant families from the Dinosaur Age. Visitors can see more than 500 fossilized dinosaur tracks in the Exhibit Center's geodesic dome.
