The Wood Memorial Library & Museum is a community library and museum that showcases the history and heritage of Connecticut and offers a cultural gathering space for the public to enjoy arts, literature, history and culture. Located on South Windsor’s Main Street, which is lined with historic houses of every era, the Wood Memorial Library & Museum is based a beautifully restored Colonial Revival building designed by Hartford architect William Marchant in 1927. Today, the lending library has a particular focus on providing circulating, reference and archival collections in areas such as Native American history and culture, the history of Connecticut, and ornithology. The library also boasts an excellent children’s collection, a young adult/juvenile collection and several non-reference collections, which circulate for four weeks.

2. Wickham Park

Wickham Park is a 280-acre park filled with beautifully manicured landscapes of woodlands, open fields, grassy lawns, ponds and picnic areas, along with many sporting facilities and family-friendly attractions. Located in Manchester, the seasonal park features a nature center and museum with displays and exhibits on the local fauna and flora, an aviary with local birdlife, a sensory garden with a working model train, and three playgrounds (including a fully fenced-in option). Sports facilities include a championship 18-hole Disc Golf course, five tennis courts, two volleyball courts, two softball diamonds, and various horseshoe pits, as well as plenty of hiking and biking trails and a 20-station fitness trail.

The Connecticut Valley Brewing Company is an independently owned and operated family business that was founded by two Connecticut locals who wanted to create a place where the community could gather and enjoy each other’s company and some excellent craft beers. Situated in the heart of the Connecticut Valley a short way from the banks of the beautiful Connecticut River, the South Windsor facility was opened in 2018 and is one of the town’s hot spots to head to for a relaxing afternoon. The brewery produces a range of craft beers by the can, whose labels highlight some of the state’s great industries and adventure spots. The Connecticut Valley Brewing Company is open Wednesday through Sunday for brewery tours and tastings.
