Spanning 787 acres, Penwood State Park was established in 1944 and has been a popular public recreation area since then. The park was donated to the state by inventor and industrialist, Curtis H. Veeder, who spent much of his time outdoors on this property and wanted to preserve it for future generations. There are several activities you can partake in such as picnicking in the designated areas or hiking or biking on paved paths; the Metacomet Trail runs the entire length of the park and is extremely popular with joggers throughout the year. During the winter months, you can enjoy cross country skiing or find the perfect slope for sledding.
