Looking for world-class skiing, stunning alpine views, and year-round adventure? I always tell people—head to Copper Mountain! Every time I visit, I’m blown away by how much it offers in every season. You’ll get amazing skiing in winter and equally thrilling hikes and festivals in summer. Whether I’m on the slopes or enjoying a sunny day in the village, Copper always delivers a high-altitude escape that’s both fun and surprisingly easy to get to.

Best Time to Visit

It really depends on what you’re into. I usually go from November to April when I want to ski or snowboard—the snow is reliable, and there’s terrain for every skill level. But if you’re more into hiking, mountain biking, or summer events, I highly recommend coming between June and September. I’ve done both seasons, and each offers a completely different but equally memorable experience. Plus, those bluebird Colorado skies? You’ll love them year-round.

How to Get There

  • By Car: I drive in from Denver on I-70, and it’s about 75 miles—just under 2 hours depending on traffic. The resort is super close to Frisco too, so you’ll have options for quick stops and supplies.
  • By Air: I usually fly into Denver International Airport (DEN), and from there it’s an easy drive. Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE) is also a great option, especially if you’re already exploring Western Colorado.
  • By Shuttle: If you don’t feel like driving, I’ve used Epic Mountain Express and other shuttle services—they’re reliable and save you from dealing with winter roads. Great option if you're traveling solo or with kids.

Where to Stay

  • Copper One Lodge: I love staying here when I want to be right in the action. It’s ski-in/ski-out in Center Village, so you’ll be steps from the lifts and restaurants. Super convenient and cozy.
  • Tucker Mountain Lodge: This one’s perfect for a relaxed mountain stay. I’ve appreciated the outdoor hot tubs and the easy access to shops, dining, and the slopes—it’s a solid all-around choice.
  • Element 29 Hotel: I stayed here recently and was impressed by the modern rooms and upscale touches. If you want hotel-style comfort with walkable access to everything in Center Village, this is your place.

Must-See If You're a First-Time Visitor:

  • Copper Mountain Ski Resort – I’ve skied all over Colorado, and Copper is one of my favorites. You’ll love the variety here—over 2,400 acres of trails for every level, whether you’re tackling your first green or chasing powder in the bowls.
  • Rocky Mountain Coaster – If you’re not skiing, I still think you should try this alpine coaster. I’ve zipped through the trees on it and it’s such a fun, fast ride—with some seriously scenic views.
  • Village at Copper – After a full day on the mountain, I like to take it slow and stroll through the Village. You’ll find cozy cafés, great après-ski spots, and a little live music if you time it right.

If You’re Interested in Local Events:

  • Copper Live (Winter & Summer weekends) – I always swing by these free concerts when I’m in town. You’ll love the mountain backdrop, the easygoing energy, and the bonus: food trucks usually mean something tasty’s around.
  • Copper Uncorked (March) – I’ve paired wine and comfort food here, and let me tell you—it’s the kind of warm-up you won’t forget. You’ll get cozy bites from top chefs and seasonal sips to go with them.
  • Guitar Town & Copper Country (August–September) – I try to plan trips around these festivals. If you love blues, rock, or Americana, you’ll feel right at home with great bands and laid-back mountain vibes.

If You’re Looking for Unique Day Trips Within 30–90 Minutes of Copper Mountain:

  • Frisco (15 min) – I love ducking into Frisco for coffee and a casual walk down Main Street. In summer, you can rent a kayak at Dillon Reservoir—it’s peaceful and perfect for a quick break.
  • Breckenridge (30 min) – I always enjoy Breck for its charming downtown and beautiful trails. You’ll find amazing skiing in winter and hiking in summer—and the breweries aren’t bad either.
  • Leadville (40 min) – If you’re into history like I am, Leadville will pull you in. I’ve explored the museums and loved learning about its mining days—it’s rugged, authentic, and set at over 10,000 feet.
  • Vail (25 min) – Sometimes I like to splurge, and Vail is my go-to. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a European village, with spa days, high-end dining, and postcard-worthy streets.
  • Dillon & Silverthorne (25–30 min) – When I want to shop or take in a sunset by the lake, I head this way. You can hit the outlets, paddleboard on Dillon Reservoir, or catch live music at the amphitheater.
