Bethania Lutheran Church was completed in 1928 for the Danish-American Lutheran congregation that settled in Solvang.

The building was designed to resemble a typical rural Danish church with a model of a ship hanging from the ceiling in the sanctuary.

The ship serves as a symbol of a safe haven that church offers on the turbulent sea of life.

Jes Smidt from Luck, Wisconsin crafted the beautiful woodwork you can see today at the altar, baptismal font, pulpit, altar railings, and pastor’s chair.

The church is rich in beautiful statuary and religious art and is considered the most authentic replica of Danish architecture in Solvang.
