Review:
The Nimbus Fish Hatchery is operated by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and conducts an artificial propagation program and hatchery programs for salmon and steelhead spawning, whose natural habitats were destroyed with the construction of Nimbus Dam in 1955. The program also aims to support river and ocean fisheries by helping with natural hatching of Chinook salmon and steelhead trout for release to the American River. Located in eastern Sacramento County, the Nimbus Hatchery Visitor Center provides an array of educational activities for visitors of all ages that aim to promote and encourage an interest in conservation of the environment and highlight the importance of preserving the natural habitats of these fish. There is also an on-site nature trail along the American River where local wildlife and birds can be viewed.
