The Tech Interactive is one of the United States' premiere science, technology, and innovation museums. The museum was originally proposed in 1978 by the Junior League of Palo Alto and opened to the public as a temporary exhibit within San Jose's convention center in 1990. In 1998, it opened within a new permanent 32,000-square-foot facility in San Jose's Plaza de César Chávez.

Three floors of exhibits showcase the development of information technologies throughout Silicon Valley and the world in the 20th and 21st centuries, with galleries centered on the topics of communication, innovation, exploration, and life tech. Educational films and blockbuster releases are also showcased at the Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater, Northern California's only IMAX theater.
