If you're looking for a charming Silicon Valley suburb with a walkable downtown and easy access to tech hubs, I think you'll love Campbell. Just southwest of San Jose, I’ve found Campbell to be the perfect mix of small-town charm and Bay Area convenience. Whether I’m spending a weekend wandering farmers markets, biking the trails, or relaxing at a local brewery, there’s always something low-key and enjoyable happening here. It’s a great spot for a casual escape or a relaxed home base while exploring the South Bay.

Campbell, CA Highlights:

  • For Families: Explore the Ainsley House – I toured this 1920s Tudor-style home and loved its cozy vibe and seasonal exhibits. If you enjoy history and beautiful gardens, you’ll definitely want to take a peek inside.
  • For Outdoor Enthusiasts: Bike or jog the Los Gatos Creek Trail – I’ve biked this trail more times than I can count. It weaves through Campbell with peaceful views and connects you to parks, lakes, and even downtown spots. You’ll want to bring your sneakers or a bike for sure.
  • For Kids: Play at John D. Morgan Park – When I travel with family, this park is always a hit. There are two huge playgrounds, shady picnic areas, and space to run around. You’ll appreciate how easy it is to relax while the kids play.
  • For an Adventure: Try paddleboarding at Vasona Lake County Park – Just 10 minutes away, I love coming here when I want to get out on the water without driving far. Calm water, paddleboard rentals, and the occasional wildlife sighting make for a peaceful outing.
  • For Shoppers: Stroll downtown Campbell – I always find something unique downtown, whether it's a boutique, a vintage record, or handmade soap. The streets are lined with trees, murals, and little cafés—perfect for an afternoon wander.

Best Time to Visit Campbell, CA

I’ve found that April through October is the sweet spot for visiting. The weather is warm, dry, and perfect for farmers markets, patios, and bike rides. That said, I’ve visited in the winter too—it's quieter, and perfect for spending time in museums or curling up in one of the local cafés with a good coffee.

How to Get to Campbell, CA

  • By Car: I usually hop on CA-17 or I-280 to get here—it’s a quick 15-minute drive from San Jose, and just about an hour from San Francisco. Parking’s usually easy too, especially near downtown.
  • By Train: I’ve used the VTA Light Rail (Green Line) when I wanted to avoid traffic. It’s clean, easy, and connects you right to San Jose and the broader Bay Area transit system.
  • By Air: San Jose Mineta International (SJC) is super close—only about 15 minutes away by car. It’s always a breeze flying in and out when I’m visiting Campbell.

Where to Stay in Campbell, CA

  • Campbell Inn – I’ve stayed here for a casual weekend and loved the trail access and free breakfast. It’s affordable and has a pool, which is perfect during the warmer months.
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Campbell – Pruneyard Plaza – This one’s great if you want something a little more upscale. I stayed here for a wedding weekend—steps from restaurants, shops, and walking trails. Plus, you get those warm cookies at check-in!
