Morocco Beaches

Like many coastal cities around Morocco, Asilah is quite quiet for most of the year but springs into life when the summer sun arrives. Lots of tourists come to town at this time of year, boosting the local population and making Asilah a much livelier, vibrant place to be. The fortified town itself is home to stunning traditional architecture and clean white buildings, and this beach is very conveniently located if you happen to be staying in the city of Tangier, which is only a short drive away. The beaches here are a mixture of rocky and sandy spaces spread out along the outer walls of the fort, and it can be fun to explore the area and find your own little secluded spot for a picnic or sunbathing session.

Down in the southwestern part of the country by the city of Sidi Ifni, Legzira is best-known for its fantastic and fascinating rock formations. Red rock arches have formed on this beach over the years from erosion and other geological processes, creating some truly unique natural sculptures. One of the big arches actually collapsed not too long ago, but there's still a lot to see at this gorgeous Moroccan beach and it's a super spot for a romantic stroll or a paddle in the Atlantic Ocean with young children. The local city of Sidi Fini offers some good accommodation options too and there are some scenic hiking and climbing trails for adventurous outdoor enthusiasts to check out.

Some of Morocco's beaches are quite built-up due to high levels of tourism all along the coastline, with various hotels, resorts, restaurants and more, but if you're looking for something a little more natural, Sidi Kaouki could be the right place for you. Even during peak tourist season, this beach remains relatively calm and uncrowded, offering a relaxing space for beach-goers to stroll or sit on the sand and listen to the waves washing up on the shore. It's not far from Essaouira beach, but offers a very different vibe, so it can be interesting to spend some time at both of these beaches to see two sides of Morocco's coastal culture.

As previously mentioned, Essaouira isn't far from Siki Kaouki beach, but is much livelier and more vibrant, with a lot going on at all times of year. This beach really stands out for its water and weather conditions. The winds can get exceptionally strong around here, resulting in some big waves that help to make Essaouira one of Morocco's best surfing beaches. Various other water sports can be enjoyed at this location too like kitesurfing and windsurfing. If you're not much of a thrill-lseeker, pony and horseback rides can also be enjoyed along the soft sands of this Moroccan beach, and there's a local market serving up tasty seafood treats.

This is one of Morocco's Mediterranean coast beaches and is very closely located to the international border between Morocco and Algeria, so if you wanted to enhance your trip with a visit to another country, this is a good place to base yourself. Saidia is a pretty little coastal town that can be very calm and quiet for large parts of the year but attracts a lot of backpackers and foreign tourists during the summer months when the weather is warmest. It's a pretty beach with very wide, open spaces to handle the large crowds that form here on sunny weekends. There's a lot of room for groups of friends to enjoy beach games like volleyball or soccer, and the warm waters of the Mediterranean ensure that Saidia is one of the top swimming beaches in Morocco.

Located along the northwestern edge of Africa, Morocco is well-known for its rich culture and deep history, being home to a long list of famous, lively cities like Casablanca, Marrakech, and Tangier.
