Beaches in Africa

The Seychelles are renowned all over the globe for offering some of the most paradisiacal, picture perfect beaches on the planet, and Anse Soleil is a prime example. Situated on the southwestern coat of Mahe, walking out onto this African beach feels like you just arrived on your own private island. It's a big hit with couples, in particular, offering a peaceful, romantic environment that never gets old.

One of the best beaches in South Africa, Camps Bay is located in the country's legislative capital of Cape Town and has a lot to offer. It's highly popular with both the locals and tourists. In fact, on a good, sunny day, this beach can actually get very crowded, but there's a lot of space here, so you just have to walk down a little further to find a patch of sand to lay down your towels and beach equipment. This is a really nice beach to sunbathe and take in the views, especially in the evenings when the sun starts to set and the sky lights up with a rainbow of colors.

Watamu is located in Kenya and is unquestionably one of the country's prettiest beaches. It's a very popular spot for wildlife lovers and nature enthusiasts due to the fact that lots of sea turtles can be seen coming ashore to nest on the beach and the surrounding Malindi Marine Reserve Park area. If you want to see some marine life up close and personal, this is also one of Africa's best snorkeling beaches and has proven popular with people of all ages for many years.

Madagascar has a long and luscious coastline, with dozens of world class beaches to be found all around the island nation. Down on the southern coast, Ifaty is undoubtedly one of the best beaches in Madagascar and one of the prettiest in all of Africa too. Simple shacks and houses line the coast, offering an authentic, private island vibe to this beach, which features smooth sands, warm waters, and an exceptional coral reef just a short swim away. Snorkeling is therefore very popular here and there are lots of colorful fish waiting to be discovered. This is also a good whale-watching beach if you choose to visit in the summer months.

Best known for its ancient history and iconic pyramids, Egypt is also home to some breathtaking beaches and Sharm El Sheikh is a key example. Located on the southern edge of the Sinai Peninsula looking out onto the Red Sea, Sharm El Sheikh is one of Egypt's best beach resort towns. With crystal clear, shimmering waters and soft sandy expanses provide the perfect setting for endless hours of seafront fun. Sunbathing, swimming, and diving are particularly enjoyable here.

We're back in the Seychelles for another of Africa's best and most beautiful beaches. Anse Source d'Argent is located on La Digue and even if you haven't visited it yet, you've almost definitely seen images of it. Anse Source d'Argent is classed as one of the most photographed beaches on Earth due to its pristine qualities and unparalleled beauty. Lush vegetation lines the edge of the beach, which is made up of sugary white sand, while shallow, gentle waves stretch out as far as the eye can see. Anse Source d'Argent is just one of many gorgeous beaches on La Digue, so be sure to explore the local area if you pay this beach a visit.

No list of the best beaches of Africa could be complete without Essaouira. This Moroccan beach is located just outside quite a sleepy coastal town, but really livens up in the summer when the big crowds of tourists start to arrive. The wind and wave conditions here make this beach a big hit with water sports enthusiasts and surfers. It's a great spot to have some active fun or just chill out and admire the surrounding landscapes, and the local harbor is a nice spot to walk around too.
