Fiji Honeymoon Planning Tips

Pristine white sands, amazing snorkeling, massages and overwater bungalows attract vacationers from all over the world. The beaches are beautiful, the people are very friendly, and relaxation is a must. When choosing where to stay, you need to be sure you know what you are looking for. Many resorts offer guests a wide range of activities and dining options, while other resorts specialize in certain vacation activities like scuba diving. Don't forget to make sure that you know how to reach your hotel once you land at the airport. The trip to some of the resorts can mean two or more boat rides. A helicopter ride to your resort is often the way to go since a helicopter can get you where you need to go much faster than a boat.

How Much Will the Trip Cost?

Resorts range from USD $250 to well over $1,000 per night. One important cost to consider is the price of the transfer from the airport to the resort. Whether it's a boat, a seaplane, or helicopter it's going to cost you more than a regular hotel shuttle that you might find in other destinations. The nightly rates for many resorts are all inclusive so you can get a good sense of what your basic daily expenses will be.

Unlike many other resort vacation destinations, Fiji does not have a truly crowded season. There is, however, a rainy season. Instead of planning to avoid the crowds you might want to plan on avoiding the rain. The season for tropical rains is from December through February. These months are also when the temperatures are highest in Fiji.

How do We Get to Fiji?

Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, Qantas, and American Airlines all fly to Nadi International Airport. Flight times from select destinations are as follows: Los Angeles - 10 Hours, Honolulu - 6 Hours and 30 Minutes, London 21 Hours and 30 Minutes, and Sydney - 4 hours.

Total travel time may be longer depending on the layover times for connecting flights. Most vacationers connect in either Los Angeles or Honolulu. Rental cars are available although you probably won't need one. Travel arrangements can usually be made through your hotel. A vacation in Fiji is really about the beach and the ocean, not the roads.

Packing List

Don't forget a pair of sunglasses and a hat to shield you from the strong sun, especially if you plan on spending any amount of time on the water. If you have a digital camera, you should consider investing in an underwater housing for it so that you can take pictures underwater. Even if you are not into scuba diving, you will want to snorkel on Fiji. If you buy your own mask before you go, it will be cheaper and more comfortable than if you rent one at your resort. Remember to pack light. There are often weight restrictions on smaller planes.

Where Should I Go?

There are few places left on the planet where you can see bright stars at night and swim in a pristine ocean with abundant fish life. The Fijian islands are known for the warmth and generosity of their people, fabulous scuba diving and white sandy beaches. The Great Sea Reef, located on the north end of Vanua Levu is the fourth longest reef in the world.

Viti Levu

International flights land at Nadi International Airport on Viti Levu, so if you stay at one of these resorts, you don't have to take a connecting flight.

  • For those who crave privacy and seclusion, Namale Resort is the perfect destination. 16 luxury guest bures and villas on 325 tropical acres are surrounded by empty beaches and lush vegetation. Scuba diving is spectacular and Namale is a 5-Star Gold Palm PADI certified resort.
