1. Batton Hollow Winery

Known for its delicious, award-winning wines, Batton Hollow Winery prides itself on offering high-quality wine at an affordable price. In addition to their regular selection of red and white wines, the winery produces four seasonal wines each year, including a refreshingly sweet white wine meant for the summer and a unique spiced red wine that's perfect for fall.
Anyone who wishes to visit outside of opening hours can do so by appointment. Many of the wines are also sold at local restaurants and liquor stores.

2. Chestnut Ridge Winery

Perched overlooking the charming town of Spencer, Chestnut Ridge Winery is proudly owned and operated by a husband and wife team. The winery is located inside the Chestnut Ridge Artist Colony, which offers several other artisan shops for visitors to enjoy before or after a stop at the winery. There are more than twenty different types of wine to try, ranging from European-style dry wines to semi-sweet wines, and guests are welcome to relax on the winery's large deck while sampling the wines. The winery is open Wednesday through Sunday, and reservations are recommended for large groups.

3. Daniel Vineyards

Established in 1990 on the grounds of a former golf course, Daniel Vineyards is a conservation grape farm that produces world-class estate wines. The winery's vineyards sit at a higher altitude than any others in the state, and they grow fifteen varieties of grape that were carefully hand-picked to thrive in the relatively chilly West Virginia climate. Red, white, and dessert wines are available, and tastings are offered for a small fee. The property is open Tuesday through Saturday, and visitors are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch and spend an hour or two enjoying the beautiful property.

4. Forks of Cheat Winery

Set in the gorgeous Appalachian Mountains, Forks of Cheat Winery is a family-run operation that has received hundreds of awards for its wines since it was established in 1990. The 16-acre vineyard grows both American varietal and French hybrid grapes, and the red and white wines range from very dry to very sweet, ensuring there's something to suit every taste. Fruit wines and dessert wines are available as well. Tours are available during opening hours, and on-site amenities include a tasting room, a gift shop, and an outdoor pavilion that can be booked for special events during the summer months.

5. Hawk Knob Hard Cider and Mead

The first cidery in the state of West Virginia, Hawk Knob Hard Cider and Mead specializes in making unique artisan ciders and meads using traditional methods. Many of the products are made with local fruits and honeys, and most of them tend towards the dryer end of the spectrum. The tasting room is open Tuesday through Saturday, and in addition to meads and ciders, it offers an excellent selection of meats and cheeses as well as a charming outdoor deck. Live music is often played in the evenings, and the space can be booked for special events.

6. Honey River Meadery

Nestled in the Highlands of West Virginia, the Honey River Meadery is part of a cheerful small-scale family farm that produces its own honey as well as honey products like mead and beeswax candles. All the meads are made using raw, unprocessed honey and no sulfites or other chemical additives, and they're carefully aged for at least two years to ensure the best possible quality. In addition to classic white wine-like meads, there is also an excellent selection of meads made using both honey and locally-grown fruit. Tours of the property and the production facility are available by appointment.

7. Kirkwood Winery

Founded in the mid-1980s by a local farming family and purchased by new owners in 2017, Kirkwood Winery has been producing high-quality wines for decades. More than thirty varieties of wine are produced on the estate, but the selection isn't limited just to red and white wines; meads, ports, fruit wines, and unique vegetable wines are available as well. All wines can be purchased in the on-site store, as can artisan jellies, candles, and other locally made handicrafts. The store is open every day of the week between April and December, but closed on Sundays from January to March.

8. Moss Farms Winery LLC

Moss Farms Winery LLC is part of the family-owned Moss Farms, which have been in operation since the 1890s. Wine production only began here in 2012, but the establishment is already well-known for their delicious red, white, and fruit wines, which are available for purchase onsite and at all Undo's Family Restaurant locations. The wines range from dry to sweet, and popular options include a refreshingly sweet white wine made from Niagara grapes, a berry-citrus sangria, and the winery's signature strawberry wine. Tastings are offered on Saturdays during the summer months, and tours can be arranged by appointment.

10. Potomac Highland Winery

Found in the state's peaceful Eastern Panhandle, Potomac Highland Winery is a small family-run operation known for producing consistently high-quality wines. The winery has its own vineyard, which is spread out over acres of gently rolling hills and grows a variety of French hybrid grapes. Both red and white wines are available, many of which are oak-aged. Wine can be purchased directly from the winery or ordered online; the family also sells their wine at many different festivals and fairs all throughout the year, which is an excellent opportunity to sample the wares before you buy.
