Picturesque, breathtaking, mesmerizing. These are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the sight of the Hudson Athens Lighthouse sitting peacefully in the middle of the Hudson River. Situated at the crossing point between Hudson and Athens, this lighthouse features a Second Empire architectural style and was built in 1874. Today, it is one of two remaining lighthouses in the river and is largely regarded as a national treasure. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, the Hudson Athens Lighthouse can be explored through guided tours during summers, which include a relaxing cruise along the river towards the lighthouse.
