Perfectly combining a wealth of pioneer history with a good assortment of recreational facilities, Independence is a great day-trip destination and one of the best places to visit in Missouri. This is the hometown of former president Truman and many visitors come here specifically to tour the impressive Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum.
Other must-see attractions include the National Frontier Trails Museum and Historic Independence Square. You can tour in style aboard a mule-drawn covered pioneer wagon or do a walking tour.
If outdoor recreation is what you crave you can cycle the 14-mile Little Blue Trace Trail or go walking in Waterfall Park. Shoppers will find a variety of boutique shops in the historic district as well as several other shopping areas.
